Take a look at this 2008 article by the New York Times, Transforming Art Into a More Lucrative Career Choice. Although the article is outdated, the author highlights the increasing trend toward profitable art, which is still relevant today. (One example of this revolution is mentioned in my November 19th post on DC’s Eclectic Art Spaces.) Additionally, some of the projects described in the article are alive and flourishing. Tristan Hummel’s Art on Track is the world’s largest mobile art exhibit and is now a recurring event in Chicago. (Here are some of the event photos.) Art on Track has expanded to include an art initiative called BuiltFestival, which is a city of shipping containers that is constructed in Chicago’s Wicker Park Neighborhood and artists and curators exhibit art in the containers.  Awesome! Creative minds are using both sides of their brain to find new spaces and funding for art exhibitions. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
